Reed and I rode the beautiful Kam Krue

Today we had the most amazing experience with Asian elephants at Baanchang Elephant Park (visit their website here). I won't bore you with the facts I learned, but you can ask me all about elephants another time. We fed them, petted them, got kisses from the baby elephant, rode them, and bathed them. It was so unbelievable. The best part was riding through the jungle bareback on elephants...incredible. I imagined that we were some sort of royalty in the olden days being transported by elephants. Although I have to say for the most part I wasn't very graceful! Elephants are truly beautiful animals, and I feel so privileged to have been able to spend today with them. One of the best parts about this particular park is that the elephants are treated very well. I refused to go to Tiger Kingdom because the tigers are so sedated, but I can definitely say that these elephants were happy and healthy!

Before leaving, Angus told me to make sure I didn't get stepped on, and at the time I just laughed at him. When we were bathing the elephants, one of them rolled over onto my leg. My shin is pretty swollen/pink. We'll see how badly it bruises. I'm grateful for the trainer who heard me scream & helped me get out otherwise I'd definitely have a VERY broken leg right now.

It was an amazing experience. Definitely one of the best of the trip. Thanks to Nina for getting us a special group rate and setting up our transportation!

Like the park's page on Facebook, and if you're ever in Chiang Mai, I'd highly recommend paying them a visit.
